Sketch Dump

Are kilts the new thing in fashion? I've been seeing them a lot lately...

Sketch Dump

Usually, people don't say anything when I sketch them, though I'm sure a lot of them wonder why I keep staring at them. I was called out on it today, though. Fortunately the guy was really cool, and I'm happy to say I didn't learn of any new conspiracy theories this time around.

Sketch Dump

My favorite pen ran out of ink last week, and I didn't have another one like it with me. So some of these were done with a mechanical pencil, and others with a dying brush pen. The last couple were done with an awesome felt-tip pen.

Also, I really like drawing old people. As long as they're sitting, they can really hold a pose.

Hat. And some other stuff.

More cafe sketches. I've been going to the same one every week for awhile now. I think the baristas think I'm a creep. Sigh. The price we pay in pursuit of our passions...

Sketch Dump

Still at it. The guy at the bottom left of the first sketch was great. I don't know what magazine he was reading, but judging by how often he said it was funny, I'd guess it was pretty funny.

Zombies

I got to draw zombies at work last week. Pretty cool. I didn't have enough time to do much with the background. C'est la vie.

Cafe Day

I went to another cafe today. Apparently, sketching in public gives people free license to talk to you. Which normally is cool; it's nice to meet new people. Sometimes. It loses it's appeal when some old guy starts trying to convince you that the U.S. government is actively trying to reduce the world's population to 500 million people, and that 9-11 was a part of the plan. That's when you know it's time to go.

Anyway, here's what I got before I was interrupted.

Sketch Dump

Somebody at work reminded me of the Ninja Turtles the week before last, and I drew during a bout of nostalgia. Not the best, but it was fun to do.

I went to a cafe this morning and did a bit of sketching. I need to do that more often. It's not easy capturing gestures and proportions and form when your subjects are oblivious to your efforts. I think these sketches reflect the difficulty I was having. Which is, of course, exactly why I need to do it more often.

And finally, some figure gestures from photo ref, courtesy of the Art Models books. I'm trying to improve my ability to capture form and gesture quickly and efficiently. Which also goes back to sketching from life. Gotta keep practicing!
