I'd like to end the year on a positive and productive note. Kind of give myself a little momentum going into 2012. So here's one last post for the year. Nothing fancy, just stretching a little toward a few ideas I've been exploring. If I can keep any kind of rhythm going, there'll be more on that soon.
And yes, I suck at drawing horses. But it's still a whole lot of fun.

Sketch Dump
So it's been a really long time. I'm actually having a hard time believing the year is basically over. I meant to do a better job keeping this thing current this year. Guess I have to try again.
Anyway, here's a bunch of random doodles done over the past week. I hope to have a few more polished images soon.

Still Not Finished...
I kinda put this aside and forgot about it the past couple of weeks. But I did a little more with it today, so here's the progress. I know it's necessary to work through the failures and learn from them in order to grow as an artist, but man, it is not easy.

Journey sketch
Photoshop sketch of a plains landscape. I know: it sucks. I planned it to be part of a piece for Illustration Friday. The topic is "journey".
I'm tempted to just give up on it. I won't though. It's been so long since I saw an idea to completion that it's really no wonder that I can't produce anything decent. But the only way to fix that is to keep working through all the throwaways and learning from my mistakes, right? So I'll finish it.
I apologize in advance to your eyes.

Digital Sketch
I don't have a scanner right now. I'm going to be posting a lot of digital sketches for awhile. I need the practice anyway, so whatever.
I'm still not sure exactly what kind of look I want my digital stuff to have, so I'll probably be all over the place. I should probably start by finding reference material to work from, though...
Yeah. That might be a good idea.

Proportion Issues
I frequently draw large-headed people. Maybe it's some kind of subconscious insecurity manifesting itself...
And a setting sketch...

New Beginnings
Time for a fresh start. This is my sketch blog, so I figure I should actually post a few sketches now and then. It won't always be pretty, but sketches are for learning, right? If you've got advice, I'll listen to it. If it's good, I'll even use it. So there you go.
I've been sketching with ballpoint pens a lot lately, mainly because they're everywhere. I'm starting to like them, though. This first image is a ballpoint sketch. The next two pencil drawings are attempts to play with clothing and personality.
